Slammer Tennis World | Clifton Threat, the City Councilman for District 1 in Emporia, arrived at the Community Youth Center early on the morning of the previous Saturday. He presented Mayor Dr. Carolyn Carey’s proclamation of appreciation to Marvin Tyler and thanked him for his service. While Threat was presenting Tyler with the certificate, Tyler was getting ready to compete in the youth division of the Slammer Tennis Jamboree.
The native of Emporia, who now resides in Tampa, Florida, was recognized by the city’s mayor for his many remarkable accomplishments, which were highlighted in the proclamation. The Emporia and Greensville areas have now produced their first ever professional tennis instructor in the form of Tyler. In 2007, he was honored by the Dutchess County, New York, chapter of the NAACP with the Men of Distinction Award.
The Commercial Tennis Association of the Year Award was bestowed upon Tyler’s company, Slammer Tennis World, by the New England Section of the United States Tennis Association. The recognized tennis pro was awarded the title of Member of the Year by the Professional Tennis Registry in 2014…
