The days I spent at home with my Lola and younger sister while my Lolo and Nanay were at work are some of my earliest memories.
Lola spent her entire day caring for her family’s physical and emotional needs at home. She spent her days cooking us the tastiest pagkain, cleaning our house, and instructing my sister and me in the fundamentals of English and Tagalog.
With each bite, sight, and smell, we were transported back to the Philippines, where everything from the dinnerware to the chairs reflected the ideals and traditions of the country.
