The genesis of Young King isn’t in a lab or a boardroom—it’s in the quiet, overwhelming joy of welcoming our first child. When our beautiful brown baby boy, Kade, arrived with a beautiful, thick head of naturally curly and coily hair, our lives were forever changed.
Like all new parents, we dove into the world of baby products. We scoured shelves looking for clean, natural hair care specifically designed to nurture his unique texture. To our genuine surprise, and eventual disappointment, the market was silent. There were dozens of options for women and girls, but a glaring, empty space for young men with textured hair.
We quickly realized this wasn’t just a minor inconvenience; it was a profound unfulfilled need and a reflection of an industry that had historically overlooked and underrepresented young Black and Brown boys.
The moment was clear: If the products Kade needed didn’t exist, we had to create them. We needed to launch a brand that was just for him, and for every young man who looked like him.
Inspired by Kade, our greatest motivation, we officially launched Young King in December 2019.
Simply put, we’re here for young men who strive to be authentically themselves, from their classrooms to their communities and everywhere in between.
Our mission is dual-fold: to shake up the beauty industry and to change the narrative.
We are here to redefine what male grooming means for the next generation. It’s not about fuss or complexity; it’s about confidence. We provide a straightforward, simple daily routine that actually works, giving young men the confidence needed to look and feel their best 24/7/365. Healthy hair is a key component of self-assurance, and our products deliver the moisture and hydration textured hair needs without the harmful ingredients it doesn’t.
We fundamentally believe that representation is critically important. The traditional media and product landscape often fails to showcase young men of color as dynamic, expressive, and unapologetically confident. Young King is here to change that.
