Harlem’s Finest Soul-Food | On October 12, 1947, Charles Gabriel was born close to Charlotte, North Carolina. He has eight sisters and twelve brothers. His folks worked as sharecroppers. On a nearby plantation, the family, which included six-year-old Charles, picked cotton from six in the morning until six in the evening. His mother would prepare meals for the whole family in the evening. Charles learned how to make the meals that we all eat today in his mother’s kitchen.
