Terron Sorrells, a talented African-American printmaker, was born in Virginia in 1994. From a young age, he honed his artistic skills, culminating in his graduation from the prestigious Maryland Institute College of Art in 2016.
His artistic journey began at Churchland High School’s Center of Excellence program from 2008 to 2012, where he delved into the formal qualities of art and art history. He further enriched his education by attending the Governor’s School for the Arts summer residential program at Radford University in 2010. During this time, Sorrells developed a unique drawing sensibility that has become a defining element of his painting and printmaking practice.
Growing up, Sorrells was immersed in Western culture and ideologies. While his public school environment was racially diverse, his passion for art led him to circles where conversations about race and history were less prominent. This experience ignited a new artistic purpose for him.
Now, Sorrells is dedicated to using his art to explore and share African-American culture and history. Through his compelling printmaking and painting, he extends these important conversations, offering a fresh perspective on his heritage and its place in the world.
