The PB Story: From an LA Kitchen to a Black-Owned Candle Haus

Our journey began in 2019, right in my own kitchen in Los Angeles. At the time, I was running Predominantly Black, a clothing boutique with its own in-house brand. But I had a new idea stirring—one that was all about creating an experience through scent.

That’s when I started experimenting with candles. The very first collection, our “OG Candle Collection,” was born from hours of mixing and testing. My kitchen became a makeshift lab where SUBTLE, SOLITUDE, and MADNESS were lovingly cooked and poured. This was the moment A Predominantly Black Candle Haus truly came to life, not just as a business, but as a passion project.

Where We Are Now: A Commitment to Craft

I’m Mya Sinquefield, the owner, creator, and “mother maker” behind it all. I’m proud to be a self-taught maker, but that doesn’t mean the learning ever stops. I’m constantly expanding my knowledge through continuous research, reading, and a lot of experimentation. I’m currently enrolled in the Herbal Academy, where I’m diving deep into perfumery, emulsifiers and preservatives for skincare, and herbal formulations.

This dedication to craft allows us to stay true to our mission: to create natural body care and candles that are soothing, healing, and guilt-free. We carefully consider every ingredient to ensure both longevity and a premium, long-lasting product for your home.

Where We’re Headed: Lighting the Way for a New Generation

The future of PB is about more than just a new warehouse—it’s about giving back to the community that inspired us. We are so excited to one day launch “NOT YOUR AVERAGE MAKER,” a non-profit organization that will provide free in-class and virtual arts and science classes to kids in developing neighborhoods right here in Los Angeles.

This is our “why.” We believe in the power of making, creating, and learning, and we want to light the way for the next generation of creators.
