Beyond the Braid: Rebundle’s Revolutionary Approach to Hair Health and Sustainability

For too long, the experience of wearing beautiful braided hairstyles has come with an unspoken, uncomfortable trade-off. We’ve all been there: the itchy scalp, the painful irritation, and the lingering worry about what goes into the synthetic hair we use. At Rebundle, we believe you deserve better. We’re here to usher in a new era of hair extensions that are not only stunning but also safe, non-toxic, and truly good for you and the planet.

The Problem with Plastic

Traditional synthetic braiding hair is primarily made from low-grade plastics like acrylonitrile and polyvinyl chloride (PVC). These materials are often coated with alkaline chemicals to prevent them from tangling during production. While these chemicals might serve a purpose for manufacturers, they are the main culprits behind the frustrating and painful scalp irritation that a third of all wearers experience. Even worse, PVC is a known human carcinogen, and the plastics used in these extensions are not biodegradable, contributing to millions of pounds of waste in U.S. landfills every year.

Our founder, Ciara Imani May, knew this wasn’t a problem to be ignored. After suffering from one too many itchy scalps herself, she embarked on a mission to find a better way. She realized that the hair extension industry was stuck in a harmful cycle—using cheap, toxic materials and creating immense environmental waste. Her quest for a solution led her to an unexpected, yet perfect, material: banana fiber.

Introducing Plant-Based Braiding Hair

Rebundle’s flagship product, “braidbetter,” is the result of years of research and innovation. It’s a first-of-its-kind, plant-based braiding hair made from naturally extracted banana fiber. We’ve replaced the harmful plastics and alkaline coatings with a patented technology that uses repurposed biopolymers and other non-toxic ingredients like glycerin, grapeseed oil, and aloe vera extract.

The result is a braiding hair that feels as good as it looks. Rebundle hair is:

  • Itch-Free: Say goodbye to vinegar soaks and constant scalp scratching. Our hair is formulated to be gentle on your skin and won’t cause the painful irritation you’ve come to expect from synthetic alternatives.
  • Non-Toxic & Safe: We carefully select every ingredient to ensure it’s not on California’s Prop 65 list of banned chemicals. This focus on safety means you can wear your protective styles with confidence, knowing you’re not exposing your body to endocrine disruptors and carcinogens.
  • Lightweight and Comfortable: Our unique fiber is designed to be lightweight, reducing tension on your scalp and providing a more comfortable styling experience, especially for extended wear.
  • Reusable and Biodegradable: Rebundle hair can be reused up to three times, giving you more value and reducing waste. When you are ready to dispose of it, our plant-based material is biodegradable and can be composted, giving you a guilt-free way to say goodbye to your braids.

A Commitment to a Circular Economy

Our mission goes beyond just selling a better product. Rebundle is deeply committed to building a sustainable and circular economy within the hair industry. We’ve launched a groundbreaking recycling program that accepts used plastic synthetic hair from any brand. Instead of ending up in a landfill, this hair is shredded and repurposed into durable items like outdoor furniture and lawn tools. This initiative is our way of giving everyone an opportunity to choose sustainability, no matter where they are on their journey.

We are proud to be a Black-woman-owned company that is leading the charge in an industry that has historically been lacking in innovation, health-conscious products, and sustainability. We are here to prove that you don’t have to compromise on health, quality, or ethics to achieve the beautiful hairstyles you love.

Join us on our mission to create more comfort and less waste. The future of braiding is here, and it’s plant-based.
