In the world of craft beer, where innovation and community are celebrated, Full Circle Brewing Co. stands out for a reason that goes far beyond its delicious brews. It is a story of passion, perseverance, and a deep commitment to revitalizing a community. Located in the heart of downtown Fresno, California, Full Circle Brewing Co. is not just a brewery; it is a movement, a gathering place, and a testament to the power of a “Full Circle” vision.
A CPA’s Leap of Faith
The journey of Full Circle Brewing Co. is inextricably linked to its CEO, Arthur Moye. Before he was a brewery owner, Moye was a successful CPA with a passion for homebrewing. In 2016, he made a giant leap of faith, selling his accounting practice to acquire the oldest continuously operating brewery in Fresno. Backed by a group of community investors who believed in his vision, Moye set out to breathe new life into the historic brewery and, in turn, into the downtown Fresno and Chinatown neighborhoods that surround it.
Moye’s mission was to challenge the status quo of the craft beer market, which he felt was oversaturated with bitter and unapproachable IPAs. He wanted to create “happy beer full of fun flavors” that would appeal to beer connoisseurs and non-beer drinkers alike. With a focus on unique, crushable, and flavorful beers, Full Circle Brewing Co. has succeeded in capturing a diverse audience. Their colorful, eye-catching labels often feature collaborations with music icons, celebrating the energy of their “Beertainment” philosophy—a fusion of craft beer and live entertainment.
Beyond the Brew: The Heart of the Community
The concept of “Beertainment” is at the core of the Full Circle experience. The brewery’s on-site taproom is a vibrant venue that regularly hosts live music, comedy shows, and other events. This focus on entertainment isn’t just for fun; it’s a deliberate strategy to create a space where people can “detach, be present and mindful, and enjoy the full effect of the moment.” Moye’s vision extends beyond the brewery walls, with a deep commitment to reviving the downtown Fresno area and its historic Chinatown district.
Full Circle Brewing Co. is also a powerful symbol of Black excellence in the craft beer industry. Recognizing the significant disparity between Black beer drinkers and Black brewery owners, Moye has become a leading voice in advocating for better access to capital and resources for Black entrepreneurs in the space. In a landmark move, Full Circle Brewing Co. merged with Speakeasy Ales & Lagers of San Francisco, creating one of the nation’s largest Black-owned and operated breweries. The company has also formed an alliance with Crowns & Hops Brewing Co., creating the “Circle of Crowns Beverage Group,” with the mission to tackle systemic challenges and foster a more inclusive and supportive craft beverage industry.
A Full Circle of Flavor and Philanthropy
Full Circle Brewing Co. is a full-service brand, offering a wide array of beers that cater to every palate. From their popular “Illa Vanilla Milkshake IPA” and fruity sours to their classic “Downtown Pilsner,” there is always something new to discover. They have also expanded their portfolio with the acquisition of Sonoma Cider, making them one of the only Black-owned cideries in the country.
When you visit Full Circle Brewing Co., you are not just enjoying a quality beer; you are participating in a story of rebirth, community revitalization, and a movement to make the craft beer industry more diverse and inclusive. You are coming full circle, from the history-rich location to the flavorful beer in your hand, and supporting a business that is truly making a difference.
