Leading Atlanta Surgeon Erroll J. Bailey, MD, Joins Elite Foot and Ankle Society Board
Rosemont, Ill. (October 4, 2023) – We are proud to announce that our very own foot and ankle orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Erroll J. Bailey, has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (AOFAS). As a member-at-large, Dr. Bailey now holds a pivotal leadership role within the premier organization for lower extremity medicine and surgery.
“AOFAS has always served admirably as a platform to unite and educate foot and ankle orthopaedic surgeons throughout the world,” said Dr. Bailey. “It is now with great pleasure that I can help shape that platform and share my vision on education as well as equity and inclusion, something dear to my heart.”
A Commitment to Excellence and Equity
Dr. Bailey’s appointment to the AOFAS Board is a testament to his expertise and his long-standing commitment to both medical education and social equity. In his new role, he will help guide the society’s direction, with a focus on advancing surgical training and promoting diversity within the field. His dedication to these principles aligns perfectly with his professional mission to provide the highest standard of care to all his patients.
Dr. Bailey currently practices as a foot and ankle orthopaedic surgeon at Resurgens Orthopaedics in Atlanta, Georgia, and is a respected member of the Medical Association of Atlanta. He previously served as an assistant professor of orthopedics at Emory University’s Department of Orthopedics, and in 2020, he was honored with the Arthritis Foundation’s prestigious Hugh McLeod, III M.D. Award of Excellence.
An Accomplished Career of Service and Leadership
Dr. Bailey’s journey to this leadership position began with a rigorous academic and clinical background. He earned his medical degree from Harvard Medical School, followed by his residency at the Harvard Combined Orthopaedic Residency Program. He then completed a specialized orthopaedic foot and ankle fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery/St. Luke’s Roosevelt in New York, New York.
Before joining the AOFAS Board of Directors, Dr. Bailey was already an active and influential member of the organization. He served as the chairman of the AOFAS Advanced Foot & Ankle Virtual Course 2023 and co-chairman of the 2022 course. He also moderated the Minimally Invasive Foot Surgery Symposium at AOFAS Annual Meeting 2022 and has contributed his expertise as a reviewer for leading journals, including Foot & Ankle International and Foot & Ankle Orthopaedics. His commitment to education was further highlighted as a speaker at the AOFAS Annual Meeting 2023.
