As a woman with curly hair, a medical scientist with a PhD, and a certified trichologist, I have a deep and personal understanding of the misconceptions surrounding textured hair. This is why I am so passionate about educating people and creating products that focus on a holistic approach to healthy hair and scalp care.

From Damaged Strands to Healthy Hair

For years, I struggled with hair breakage and scalp damage from chemical straighteners, and I was desperate for a solution. When I began my fellowship at Vanderbilt Medical Center, I worked on a clinical trial focused on understanding the cause of sarcoidosis, a debilitating autoimmune disease that primarily affects Black women.

While enrolling patients for the study, I saw myself reflected in the countless women who had the disease. It was then that I began to realize that the condition may stem from the toxic products we put on our bodies. This realization had a profound effect on me and made me see that as a scientist, I could create a product line that not only addressed my own hair problems but could also help a larger community.

This revelation has fueled my passion, drive, and perseverance to use my scientific and medical expertise to create an organic, science-based scalp and hair care line that people can trust for themselves and their families.

Alodia is a family-owned company co-founded by my husband, Dr. Rashad DuPree Harris, MD, and me. Every product is intentionally crafted to exceed the needs of our wonderful customers. We pour our love, passion, and resources into each and every product, creating high-quality, science-driven solutions that work to solve the major hair and scalp concerns that affect the textured hair community.

Starting and building Alodia has been one of the most rewarding and challenging experiences of my life, but it’s especially special because it stands as a testament to our four beautiful sons on how to build a business from the ground up that has God, love, resilience, passion, and service to others as its foundation.
